UNE astronaut

An UNE astronaut wearing your best friend in off-world colonization: The space suit.

The space suit (technically a planetary surface suit, as you're not doing a spacewalk, but something just slightly less dangerous) is your best friend and only shield against the hostile environment of the planets you are going to encounter. Without it, you'll die. Even if you have it, you'll die if it is damaged or you use up its oxygen. Also see the pages Astronaut and Astronaut Health for more information.

Damage[ | ]

Using patch tape restores your suit's functionality and repairs damage (+40% to suit integrity). Use it to keep it at a high level, otherwise you run the risk of breaches that can quickly sap your health. It's particularly important when facing the variety of aliens that are bound to come at you - and be very, very angry.

Suit readings[ | ]

Suit Readings

Inventory readings are detailed and provide you with essential information. A condensed version is displayed on the HUD.

The best way to not die is to keep an eye on your suit readings and attend to each and every one of them. Here's the breakdown:

  • °C: the temperature in degrees Celsius. The inside reads the temperature within your suit, the outside without.
  • Psi: Pressure in pounds per square inch. The same considerations apply as above.
  • Hyd - Nut: Hydration and nutrition indicators.
  • Hlth - Suit: Health and suit status.
  • O2: Oxygen levels. The suit's life support system will automatically attempt to recover oxygen if consumed at higher rates than usual.
  • Hover fuel: Indicates current amount of fuel available for your jump jets.
  • Flash light battery: Indicates charge of flashlight battery.

The following reading is only visible on the Inventory tab:

  • Water: Amount of water left in reserve.

Jump jets[ | ]

Every space suit has integrated jump jets, giving it increased maneuverability in the field. Just jump, then hold the jump key. Jets allow you to clear obstacles and get on top of buildings and other natural defensive positions. Useful against aliens.

Flash Light[ | ]

A tool available to all players of Osiris: New Dawn. It is a helmet mounted lamp that directs a moderately powerful beam of light in the area the player is looking.

The Flash Light can be turned on and off by pressing the "L" key. It has a range of approximately 60 meters. Beyond that, the visibility quickly tapers off. Currently, the flash light has unlimited power, despite what the player's UI says in the menu.

The flash light comes in handy in the typical ways, lighting up dark areas and aiding in navigation at night. However, during inclement weather conditions on Proteus 2, the tool's effectivity can be severely hampered, reducing visibility even further and making it difficult to navigate the world. Additionally, the beam is somewhat narrow, and extreme movements from the player (such as jump jetting or erratically looking in different directions) or attacks from aliens may cause the light to jostle and require refocusing.

  • Light Unit — The light unit improves flashlight battery consumption and flashlight range.

Backpack Attachments[ | ]

  • Storage Unit — The storage unit increases the bonus slots available, but this comes at a cost as it also increases hover fuel consumption, oxygen consumption and stamina usage.
  • Cooling Unit — The cooling unit cools the suit enough to enable one to withstand a higher temperature threshold. The cost however is an increase in stamina consumption.
  • Heat Sink Unit — The heat sink unit heats the suit enough to enable one to withstand a lower temperature threshold. The cost however is an increase in oxygen and stamina consumption. NOTE: In the real world this is the opposite of how a heat sink actually works.
  • Solar Unit — The solar unit improves the recharge rate of the flashlight as well as the oxygen recharge rate, but it also increases the stamina usage.

Boot Attachments[ | ]

  • Booster Unit — The booster unit increases the hover height and improves the hover fuel recharge rate, but it also decreases the hover duration and hover fuel capacity while also increases hover fuel consumption.
  • Glide Unit — The glide unit improves hover duration hover fuel consumption, oxygen consumption, and stamina usage, but also reduces the hover height.
  • Recovery Unit — The recovery unit improves the gravity modification, fall damage received, hover fuel recharge rate, oxygen recharge rate, and stamina recharge rate.
  • Fuel Compressor — The fuel compressor improves the hover fuel capacity, hover fuel consumption and hover fuel recharge rate.
