The O.M.P.A. (Osiris Mission Personal Assistant) is a craftable companion in Osiris: New Dawn. The spherical droid can be built in the Laboratory in order to help astronauts with various tasks. Equipped with a hover propulsion unit and rudimentary artificial intelligence, droids can protect the perimeter from aliens using their machine guns, repair damaged structures, gather and transport resources, as well as provide support and companionship in a time of need through their mere presence. New security not replaced weapons.

Characteristics[ | ]

When first built, the O.M.P.A. can execute basic commands: follow, flank, and stay. By accessing the ability tree and spending proficiency points, more functions can be unlocked and upgraded such as mining, combat, and repairs. Once unlocked, new commands become available: patrol & mine and patrol & repair. When selected, both commands allow to select a certain work area (the size of which can be changed by using the scroll wheel).

In order to perform any task, the O.M.P.A. needs batteries as an energy source. The energy consumption can be optimized by unlocking the respective abilities. Batteries can be replaced at any time by using the Multi-Tool. If the droid's battery charge reaches 0%, it will drop to the ground, unable to execute any commands. Astronauts then have to locate the disabled O.M.P.A. and swap batteries.

The O.M.P.A. also can be used as portable storage to transport resources and materials. If mining is unlocked, the droid will gather resources and deposit them inside the inventory. In order to store mined minerals in owned depositories, automatic storing has to be unlocked first. The droid's inventory can be accessed by aiming the Multi-Tool at the droid.

Taking damage from combat requires repairs. Since the O.M.P.A. can not repair itself or other droids, this task can be performed with the Multi-Tool.

Currently, droids can not be transported, meaning they are confined to the map they are built on.

Interactions[ | ]

Basic commands can be given by approaching the droid. It will face the astronaut and await further instructions. By aiming the Multi-Tool at the O.M.P.A. more options become available. The O.M.P.A. control panel and various chat commands offer additional interactions which can be issued to specific droids or all droids.

Control panel[ | ]

Ompacc

Current O.M.P.A. control panel.

By pressing C (or the according custom key) the O.M.P.A. control panel can be accessed. It displays information on up to four droids (name, coordinates, current activity, health, and energy status). By pressing the assigend key (1-4), a submenu pops up allowing to give further instructions to each droid: follow, stop activity, and summon. Pressing R when the control panel is open provides a variety of additional options depending on the status of the droids, including rebinding keys to different droids.

Summoning an O.M.P.A. to the astronaut's location costs half of the droid's remaining energy.

Chat commands[ | ]

Ompacommands

Currently available O.M.P.A. chat commands.

Since only four O.M.P.A.s can be displayed on the control panel, all other droids can be accessed by using the chat command /ompa help in order to acquire information and give global commands. In order to not get too confused, it is suggested to rename droids right after they are constructed to be able to identify each droid individually later on.

The available commands are:

/ompa list (get list of available O.M.P.A.s)

/ompa [name] report (get details for specified O.M.P.A. (location, health, etc))

/ompa [name] stay (command specified O.M.P.A. to stay at its current location)

/ompa [name] follow (command specified O.M.P.A. to come to your location and follow you)

/ompa [name] summon (teleports specified O.M.P.A. to your location (costs half of its remaining energy))

Square brackets [] have to be placed around the name of the droid. Using [ALL] will send a message to all available O.M.P.A.s to carry out the desired command.

Behaviour[ | ]

The O.M.P.A. is not able to make its own decisions and will execute all commands based on a priority protocol. Fighting off aliens always has the highest priority. All tasks will be postponed until the threat is eliminated, then the droid will return to its previous duty (mining or repairing). If that task has been completed, the O.M.P.A. will patrol and defend the assigned work area until either resources have respawned or further repairs are necessary.

Combat[ | ]

In order to defend itself, the machine gun ability needs to be unlocked. The O.M.P.A. then will attack any hostile creature until it is killed. The droid does not stop attacking, even if it is about to be damaged severely and will sacrifice itself unless the astronaut intervenes.

Mining[ | ]

When mining is unlocked, the O.M.P.A. will mine almost any resource in its assigend work area. This includes all metals and minerals (even rocks), urchin shells, space debris and any kind of alien remains that sometimes can be found lying on the ground (e.g. hides and shells). If all resources within the work area are collected, the droid will patrol and defend its work area until new resources have spawend.

Repairs[ | ]

Unlocking repairs in the ability tree allows the O.M.P.A. to repair damaged structures until they are fully repaired. On completion, the droid will patrol and defend its assigned work area until further repairs are required. Droids can not repair vehicles and can not repair other droids, thus this task has to be performed by an astronaut.

Ability tree[ | ]

The current O.M.P.A. ability tree consists of four branches, allowing players to unlock and upgrade different abilities in order to specialize and improve each droid individually.

  • O.M.P.A. systems: increases system efficiency
  • Maintenance: unlocks repairs and related upgrades
  • Combat: unlocks combat and weapon upgrades
  • Mining: unlocks mining and mining upgrades

In order to unlock and upgrade abilities, the player has to spend combat, engineering or science points. The ability tree can be accessed with the Multi-Tool.

For more details on O.M.P.A. abilities, see List of O.M.P.A. abilities.

Customization[ | ]

Players can customize their droids by approaching them with the Multi-Tool equipped. The following options become available:

  • Customize - Change the primary, secondary, detail, and glow colors.
  • Nickname - Change the name of the droid.
  • Open Ability tree - Displays the ability tree, allowing to unlock different abilities.

as of 0.5.237 there are now specialized droids the ompa is now only a repair bot [and extra inventory to follow you around] the recipe for it has also been changed it is easier to acquire the materials as no need for space but is still mid game at the min as u need a tool bench and the fab, for security there is the osiris mission mining assistant and the osiris mission security unit they do as the names imply, the skill tree access seems to have been removed as well or at least ive yet to find a means to access it either with tools, stations or commands.
